This is great Stephen. The nice finding is that social networks actually pulls us closer together instead of farther apart. I've reconnected with many of my high school friends through Facebook. I don't think I would've done so otherwise.

i hear that. without facebook, the east coast wouldn't even exist to me ;)

LOL. My high school friends within a 5 mile radius wouldn't exist to me ;)

It hasn't really done much for my social circle to be honest. I still avoid most of the people I knew in my youth like the plague. If they hunt me down then I add them, if they don't I carry on happily lol

Yup, I'm a reconnecter, too. I've managed to connect up with middle school friends... which is neat, but admittedly a little odd.

1) connecting with some people more, including some people in remote country and some long forgotten ties recovered - very good
2) but generally seeing real people in real life situation less - no good

I think your #2 is a big problem with the current tech age Hinhmoi I personally am not big on using the internet to reconnect because most of the people from my past are part of my past instead of my present for a reason
I get a lot of "friend invites" from people from my youth but I generally ignore them because I am just not interested in rekindling old friendships that fell apart I figure they ended for a reason

well that's an interesting take Victsteria.
I'd have to agree - but for real friendship or working relation - isn't that great to connect with people all over the world? OK this is mainly emails, words line but you get video conference too.
Save on plane flights and fuel too you know for some meetings...
Say you need to be in Shanghai tomorrow for one meeting that only will only last two hours - and you can replace it by good video-conference? Not too bad. But sure, you won't get drunk later on in your hotel room or meet any crazy situations...It's kind of green :-)
